CLOSING OF THE BONES

CEREMONY

A sacred return to self after birth, transition or loss. This ceremonial offering is a gentle, body-centered practice that holds space for physical, emotional, and energetic closure after pregnancy and childbirth. Whether you are healing from a recent birth, navigating the silence of a pregnancy loss, or carrying the invisible weight of birth trauma, this ceremony is an invitation to come home to yourself — to be held, witnessed, and supported.

With deep compassion and reverence, I create a sacred, safe container where women can:

  • Feel seen and nurtured in the often-overlooked postpartum period

  • Release and process emotional residue from pregnancy, labor, trauma or loss

  • Reconnect with the body through gentle touch, warmth, and somatic healing

  • Integrate the birth experience, whatever form it took, with softness and support

  • Honor the thresholds crossed — whether through birth, loss, or transition

The Closing of the Bones is an ancient, sacred ritual rooted in postpartum traditions that honor the profound transformation a woman undergoes—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

For Women Postpartum

Whether your birth was empowering, traumatic, or somewhere in between, the postpartum time can feel disorienting, raw, and vulnerable. This ceremony supports the integration of your birthing experience, helps restore energetic and physical boundaries, and creates space to honor your body and soul for all they’ve carried. Through gentle touch, ritual wrapping, warmth, and presence, we acknowledge your transition into motherhood—not just as a medical event, but as a rite of passage.

For Women Who Have Experienced Pregnancy Loss

Supporting a woman after pregnancy loss—whether through miscarriage, stillbirth, or termination—with a Closing of the Bones ceremony is a sacred and compassionate act of care.

This version of the ceremony is not about “closing” as in moving on—but about:

  • Acknowledging the existence of the pregnancy or baby, no matter how brief

  • Honoring your physical, emotional, and spiritual experience

  • Tending to your grief, your identity, and the invisible layers of your healing

  • Offering energetic closure, not to forget, but to move forward with softness and support

We create a space where you can be held, where grief is not rushed, and where your wholeness is remembered—even in the presence of loss.

What the Ceremony Includes:

A grounding conversation and intention setting.

We begin by settling into the space and connecting with what’s present—emotionally, physically, and energetically. This creates safety, clarity, and focus for the ceremony.

Time for storytelling, stillness, and integration.

You’ll have space to speak (or not speak) what wants to be heard— love, joy, grief, rage, numbness, gratitude. Nothing is too much here.

Gentle abdominal and womb-focused touch (with consent).

Soft, nurturing contact is used to support the pelvis, belly, and womb space—places where our bodies often hold memory, tension, and grief.

Wrapping (inspired by the traditional rebozo).

This wrapping technique is by the traditional rebozo practice—an ancient ritual from Latin American cultures. It supports the whole body, symbolizing the Closing of the Bones—a sacred act of bringing the body back into alignment and containment. It creates a physical and energetic space for rest, integration, and healing.

Warmth, herbal elements, and soothing scents or sounds.

Heat packs, warm oils, herbal teas or infusions, and calming sounds may be included to support grounding, comfort, and restoration.

BodyTalk techniques.

These gentle, non-invasive techniques support the body’s natural ability to rebalance, regulate, and process stress or trauma. This helps the nervous system settle, supports emotional integration, and enhances the body’s communication systems so healing can unfold more holistically.

This is not a clinical treatment, it’s a ceremonial experience. One that recognizes that birth and loss live in the body long after the event has passed.

Investment

The Closing of the Bones ceremony is a deeply personal and sacred experience, offered at $390. This includes the full ceremony, all supporting practices, and a brief pre-ceremony consultation call.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the ceremony?

The ceremony typically lasts about 2.5- 3 hours, allowing time for grounding, intention setting, ritual, and integration.

How soon after birth or loss can this be done?

You can receive the ceremony as soon as you feel ready, whether that’s right away, later in postpartum, or even decades later. Though traditionally offered within the first 40 days, its benefits—physical, emotional, and spiritual—are potent at any time in your healing journey. Practices have supported individuals even many years postpartum, honoring and holding transitions long after the event.

If you've had a C-section or are healing from a hernia, it’s important to wait until your body has had enough time to recover from surgery. Typically, it is recommend waiting at least 6–8 weeks postpartum, or until you’ve received medical clearance from your care provider.

However, the ceremony can be adapted gently to meet your body where it is — with modifications to avoid direct pressure on sensitive areas, while still offering nurturing support, containment, and integration.

Your safety and comfort are always the priority. If you're unsure, feel free to reach out to discuss your specific situation.

Who can attend?

This is your sacred space, and you decide who is present. Many women choose to have just themselves, but you’re welcome to invite partners, loved ones, or women from your community to share in the experience. Your baby is always warmly included, whether in spirit or in presence.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare?

There’s nothing you need to do beforehand—you are simply invited to show up and receive. Before the ceremony, I’ll contact you for a brief 15-minute call to understand your story, and discuss what you need—who will attend, when and where it will happen, and any intentions or concerns you have. During the ceremony, you can choose to share your story and be witnessed or simply rest and be held in the practices. This is your space to be exactly as you are, without expectation or pressure.

What if I don’t want the womb massage or to be touched?

Your comfort and consent are the highest priority throughout the ceremony. Every touch is always with your full consent, and you have the freedom to say yes, no, or maybe later at any time. Many parts of the ceremony—like intention setting, storytelling, BodyTalk Access, and integration—can be done without physical touch. That said, the gentle wrapping does involve light contact to safely and respectfully support your body’s alignment and energetic closing. If you feel unsure or uncomfortable, we’ll talk through options to make sure you feel held and honored in a way that feels right for you.

Can the ceremony be done for someone not related to birth or pregnancy loss?
Yes! While the Closing of the Bones ceremony is traditionally connected to postpartum and pregnancy loss healing, its core intention—honoring transition, restoring energetic alignment, and creating a sacred space for integration—makes it powerful for many kinds of life changes. Whether you’re moving through grief, trauma, a major life transition, or simply seeking deeper connection to your body and self, this ceremony can hold space for your healing journey. It’s a gentle, grounding ritual to help you reclaim your boundaries, rest into your body, and move forward with grace, no matter your story.

What should I wear?
Wear whatever feels most comfortable and nurturing for you. Soft, loose clothing is ideal—something that allows you to relax fully and feel at ease throughout the ceremony.

Where does the ceremony take place?
The ceremony can be held in your home, if you prefer the comfort and privacy of your own space, or in my welcoming studio—whichever feels safest and most supportive for you.
